Hundreds attended a fairy tale scarecrow trail in Dilton Marsh, which raised money for a local primary school.
The event, on 9th and 10th May, raised over £1,300 for Dilton Marsh C of E Primary School, with the funds going towards school trips and a range of enrichment activities to enhance learning.
“The warm sunny weather on Saturday drew out quite a crowd, the village was buzzing with people of all ages, it was so lovely to see,” said Angie and Ingrid from Friends of Dilton School (FODS), which organised the trail. “It was great to have a new FODS freezer in the hall brimming with ice lollies coinciding with some sunshine. Sunday’s weather was a little breezy and on the cooler side but it didn’t stop the flurry of people wandering round the village in search of scarecrows.
“The standard of the scarecrows was fantastic, reflecting the time and effort that goes into creating them. They were very cleverly thought out and there were a few more obscure ones that left us scratching our heads.”
There were 30 scarecrows on show, with The Little Mermaid, created by the Westbury Yarn Bombers, voted as the crowd’s favourite.
“A heartfelt thank you to everyone whose combined efforts made the weekend such a fantastic community event,” said Angie and Ingrid. “We would love to hear your comments and feedback. Please take a few minutes to send us an email with your thoughts. What did you like, what worked well, was the map easy to navigate, what could be improved?”
