Chapmanslade CofE Primary School has joined forces with a local care home to plant a tree for the jubilee as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy – an initiative encouraging tree planting to help celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year and help save the planet at the same time.
A magnolia tree was planted at both the school and Greenhill Grange Residential Home in Frome alongside memorial plaques commemorating the occasion.
The school has said that the children who planted the trees are members of the school’s eco-council and that they are always looking at ways to make the school eco-friendlier.
Deputy Head of Chapmanslade CofE, Mr Cotrell, said, “Our school councillors, ranging from years 1-6 decided that they wanted their focus to be on having an ‘eco’ impact this year, so involving them in planting trees for the Queen’s Jubilee was a perfect fit.
“It was so lovely to welcome visitors from Greenhill Grange Residential Home to our school to join with us in planting a tree at Chapmanslade. The pupils later visited Greenhill Grange’s stunning site to plant a tree at their grounds too. It was heart-warming to see the pupils engaging with residents, including one resident who went to Chapmanslade School (our younger pupils found this fascinating).”
Ria Rogers, care coordinator at Greenhill Grange, added, “We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the school and meeting all the councillors, it was lovely to have a variety of ages to meet up and chat with the residents and do something special to mark the jubilee. The residents really enjoyed visiting the school!”
