1st Westbury Scout Group joined the congregation of All Saints’ Church, Westbury, to celebrate St George’s Day on Sunday 23rd April.
St George is the patron saint for Scouting and all around the country, groups meet up to renew their promises together. The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, and leaders paraded with their colours, from the Scout HQ in Meadow Lane to the church before entering during the first hymn, and the flags were laid on the high altar rail.
The assistant Beaver scout leader of 1st Westbury Scout Group Diane Perrett said, “Rev Rebecca Harris spoke about St George and why he was special to Scouting including his courage when facing new challenges, helping others and caring for the world around him – all things that are still important to Scouting today. Later in the service each section stood to renew their promise. Those who had been Scouts in the past were invited to stand and join in as well.
“Children who were present were able to join in the last hymn with musical instruments. This was followed by coffee, squash and biscuits and a chance for the congregation to chat with the young people and find out more about Scouting today as well as the opportunity for a group photograph.”
