TWO women from Westbury recently took to the sky to raise money for the Wessex Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre in Warminster.
Mary Trimarco and Hayley Wheeler, along with grandson of a trustee of the centre, Reuben Davidson and Mayor of Warminster, Sue Fraser took the leap of faith at 10,000 ft to raise money for the therapy centre.
Mary, who has multiple sclerosis, is a member of the Wessex MS Therapy Centre and has been a key volunteer and fundraiser for many years. She said, “I love it, this was my third skydive. It’s a brilliant way of raising money.
“The centre is very important to me. I go there a lot for oxygen therapy and physiotherapy and it’s such a positive place. I love the way it’s so cheerful all the time. It really makes a difference to people and is probably the only place they go for help. It’s also very sociable which is lovely.
“Hayley has been a great volunteer at the centre for quite a while now. She first came to us for a placement for college and it made such an impact on her that she came back.”
The four raised £4,000 which will go towards various projects and equipment for the centre. Mary continued, “I’m very pleased with the amount we raised; it will make a huge difference. We recently had the garden tidied and made accessible for wheelchairs. Those who are less mobile can now enjoy the garden. It’s things like that, which make it easier for people living with MS.
“The centre is entirely run on donations and receives no government funding so fundraising is key in keeping the centre going.”
The charity held an event in its new garden to thank the foursome for their efforts. Richard Southwell, chairman of the charity attended the event to thank them in person.
