IT’S that time of the year again as the Wiltshire Chilli Fest returns to spice up the Westbury High Street for the third year on Saturday 23rd September – and organisers say you can expect fun for all the family and lots of heat!
From classic Chilli Fest favourites such as the popular chilli eating competition, which will once again feature the UK Chilli Queen Shahina Waseem, to the many chilli stalls for people to peruse and even circus workshops for children to take part in behind the library, there will be plenty of entertainment and food for everyone to enjoy.
Popular samba favourites Jamma de Samba will also return to the festival with a parade and this year LJ Hugs will be bringing their Cajun cuisine from Bath City centre into Westbury, creating a special chilli and offering up something really special on the day. They will sit next to the authentic Mexican tacos from A Huevo! and the popular Dogs on Wheels stall.
As the day goes on the three-piece mariachi band, Mariachi Wey, will serenade attendees towards the scorching hot Chilli Fest competition where competitors from around the country will go head-to-head right outside Westbury Library to see who can handle the heat. The UK Chilli Queen will be assisting with the competition along with the guys at Hot Pods.
Anyone looking to quench their thirst can head to the sangria (or standard) bar, and then get eating again with Westbury’s Hickory Henry smoked BBQ or Vegan Pizza. There will be glitter and face painting available for children and Best Of You Mobile Pottery will also be on site.
“The atmosphere at the chilli fest is the best thing about it for me,” said Ryan Child, the events manager at Westbury Town Council who are organising the event. “Everyone turns up to have a good time and just take it easy, which is pretty much what we all need these days! We’ve put together a really good event for this year and hope people can come out and enjoy it. I think the food in particular is on another level.”
