Westbury Shed ‘sprang’ in to action last week to prepare their allotments for the planting season.
The group reports, “We had two perfect sunny days to cultivate the plots and with the help of a local business partner, had some serious machinery on hand to ease the load. Brilliant work all round, thank you!
“After many years of neglect, these plots will soon be productive again and this was the best possible start. Forty bags of bramble roots and a ton of broken bricks and rubbish were cleared from below the soil line and several jumbo bags of thick, thorny top growth too.
“The next phase will involve pitching a shed and wheelchair-friendly ‘raised keyhole gardens’ that can be kept by any of our members. Hey! that could be you!
“In other news, we are working with TV gardener, Toby Buckland, and will be making an appearance at his Bowood-based ‘Toby Buckland Garden Festival’ on the 4th and 5th of June.

“The promise of a workshop facility draws closer too, even though our local authority (where everybody matters) are dragging their heels just a tad! Who would have thought there was so much scope to house community projects in existing community-owned property in our town? Scope alone though, is not enough, so we are keeping up the pressure and remaining positive and resolute. Watch this space.
“To find out more about us visit westburyshed.org or come along to our causal drop-in meeting on Friday 15th April (and every third Friday of the month) at the Leigh Park Community Centre (10am – 1pm). There is always a cuppa on hand and something interesting going on.
“See you soon, and whatever you do today, don’t forget to enjoy your garden!”
