WESTBURY’S Person of the Year 2016 award has been won by St John Ambulance volunteer Lily Munday.
Hundreds of votes were received in the competition, which was organised by White Horse News to find the person who has made a real contribution to the community in 2016.
Lily Munday has lived in the town her whole life. She has been a volunteer with St. John Ambulance for over 40 years and she also volunteers at the Heritage Centre, with the White Horse Team Ministry and at care homes in the area.
Lily was nominated for her work in the community and her contribution to so many organisations in the town.
Lily said, “I was very shocked but pleased to hear I had won the Westbury Person of the Year.
“All the other candidates are all worthy to have been nominated. But I am very grateful to the person who nominated me and also a big thank you to all the people that took the time to vote for me. Thank you Westbury.
“Volunteering is very worthwhile and it has made me a better person, from being very quiet, to the more outgoing person I am now. I love helping and caring for people that are in need.”
Ian Drew, editor of White Horse News, presented the winner’s shield to Lily last week. Ian said, “Congratulations to Lily for winning this year’s Person of the Year Award. It’s great to see someone commit so much time to volunteering and giving back to the community in which she has lived for so long. Clearly the people of Westbury appreciate all the work Lily does.
“All this year’s nominees were worthy of the award and deserve praise for their efforts and contributions to the town. They can all feel proud to have been involved and to know they have made such a big impact on local people’s lives.”
Other nominees were Radek Evans, Sue Ezra, Dan Gmaj, Sam Gooding and Carole King.
