THE final results are in for this year’s Hills Group CPRE Wiltshire Best Kept Village Competition with Bratton coming second in the ‘Large Village’ category.
The competition saw 39 villages throughout the county tested for tidiness, cleanliness, presentation and village community spirit. Earlier in the year, in the first round, Bratton came first in the ‘Large Village’ category and Edington came 5th in the ‘Medium Village’ category.
In the final results, Bratton came second in the ‘Large Village’ category, missing out on the top spot to Great Bedwyn by just one point.
For being placed runner-up in the final, Bratton will receive £100 to spend on the village and a certificate.
Representing the Tidy Bratton Group, Peter Brabner said, “We’re really pleased with the result, this is a big thank you to the commitment of the many people who contributed to making Bratton a beautiful place to live in.
“This is the second year in a row that we have come a close second, so next year we are aiming to be the best.”
Chair of Bratton Parish Council Jeff Ligo said, “Thanks to the terrific team of volunteers who do such a magnificent job in ensuring our village is clean, tidy and well-maintained.
“Their work has led to Bratton being placed second in Wiltshire in the Large Village Category of the Best Kept Village contest, just a single point behind the winner.
“At the September meeting the council will be considering a report on arrangements for future parish maintenance so that more assistance and support can be given to the volunteers.”
