Westbury and District League of Friends, the group which was formed to support Westbury Hospital, continues to raise funds two years after the hospital’s closure. And the group says that the support from local people is needed today as much as ever.
The League of Friends continues to support and raise money for health-related needs in the Westbury community and have raised thousands of pounds over the last year.
Erica Watson vice-chair of Westbury League of Friends says, “We have had a number of events in the past year and donated to Hope for Tomorrow charity and Alzheimer’s Society among others.
“Our annual Bingo evening at the Westbury Conservative Club raised over £600 to give to the mobile chemotherapy unit, which visits the town.
“At our recent committee meeting we agreed to donate £2,000 to the appeal for Stepping Stones and £1,000 to Crosspoint which distributes food parcels and offers counselling and other services from its base in the Market Place in Westbury.”
The League is keen to support all age groups in the Westbury area community and the committee meet regularly to discuss how to identify unmet health needs. The charity would welcome ideas from local people and there will soon be an opportunity to find out more about their work.
Erica added, “We are holding our AGM on Monday June 2nd at the United Reform Church Hall, The Butts, Westbury, where refreshments will be served from 6.30pm and we would like to welcome you to join us to find out about the work we do and perhaps give us some ideas about any health-related needs we may support in the future. We look forward to seeing you there.”
