TWO local men have run from Reading to Bristol over three days – a distance of 100 miles – and raised over £3,000 for Dorothy House hospice.
Phil Stockley from Westbury and Mike ‘Moose’ Reaney from Sutton Veny raised the money in memory of Phil’s parents, Marg and Terry, and Mike’s father, Chris. The runners’ parents had all been supported by Dorothy House in their final days.
“It was tough going at times and despite the blisters, we would be up for doing it again next year!” said Phil. “We would like to thank all those who have supported us and who have kindly donated; it means an awful lot to us to have had so much support.”
The duo started in Reading and ran to Hungerford on Thursday 23rd May, continuing from Hungerford to Trowbridge the next day and finally, to Bristol on Saturday 25th, all along the Kennet and Avon Canal.
“Unfortunately we have both lost parents over the last few years, and Dorothy House gave us wonderful support throughout the difficult times,” said Phil and Mike. “Their outstanding care, kindness and understanding allowed us to give our parents dignity and peace in their final days. Doing this run is our way of saying thank you. The more money we raise will allow other families to have this amazing support, to enable them to focus on their loved ones in the darkest of times.”
