WESTBURY’S U3A held a special lunch meeting recently in a usually quiet month for the club.
Maggie Skyrme reports, “August is considered by many to be a holiday month when many groups, clubs and societies do not hold a meeting.
“Whilst accepting this as a commonsense approach Westbury and District U3A has adopted the policy of arranging a lunch outing each year on would have been the August general meeting date.
“This year was no exception; the venue selected being The White Horse Country Club. Some 30 people were able to attend, seated around three large round tables in a private room.
“As usual on these occasions the room was only quiet(ish) when the food had been served, each person having preselected starters and desserts whilst an excellent carvery was offered as the main course for carnivores, and there was a vegetarian alternative for herbivores.
“Discussion during the meal was wide ranging including highlights from the past year, the outing to SS Great Britain, the Christmas tea party, the uniform that the Yeoman of the Guard brought to show us and the recent talk on military medals being just a few.
“Anne Thompson was thanked for once again arranging the meal. Anne also announced the titles of the talks at the September and October general meetings, these being ‘Life and times of an old fashioned fishmonger’ and ‘As I was seated at the organ’ on September 13th and October 11th respectively.
“These meetings are held in the United Reformed Church Hall on Warminster Road, at 1.45 for 2pm. Do come and join us; your first general meeting is free.”
