OVER a hundred runners from near and far came together for the annual Bratton Hilly Run, which saw competitors tackle challenging terrain over a 11km course.
111 runners took part in the race, now in its 20th year, with part of this year’s proceeds being donated to children’s hospice, Julia’s House. This year the Bratton Shield was won by Oliver Case.
James Waugh and Sarah Amey from Westbury took part in the race as a newly engaged couple. Taking advantage of the leap year, Sarah proposed to James on 29th February and James said yes! The couple are keen runners and part of the Westbury Running Club as well as the Avon Valley runners.
Volunteer Val Whitcombe said, “Yet again it was a successful event and long may it continue. We had an excellent number of entries and the weather was perfect, dry and sunny but not too hot.
“The Jubilee Hall Committee were grateful to all the volunteers who helped on the day, without which the event could not take place. Thanks also to the First Response ambulance service who stepped in at the last minute. Also the Bratton Silver Band who entertained the spectators whilst the run was taking place.
“Then of course, thank you to all those who took part, it would not be a run without you. There is a video of the run on the Bratton Hilly Run Facebook. It’s well worth watching for all those thinking of running next year.
“The date for next year’s run is 13th May and will be our 21st year. This should prove to be a really special event so please come along and take part or support the event.”
