Westbury Amateur Swimming Club’s annual awards presentation evening was held at Westbury Labour Club on 23rd November.
The club reports, “Swimmers of all ages turned up with their families and friends to celebrate their successes in the club’s championships held during October. Barry Heywood, chairman and coach for the club, thanked parents and swimmers for their continuing support.
“The Westbury Amateur Swimming Club is one of the oldest in the UK, with its origins in 1897. This year the awards were presented by the Mayor, Ian Cunningham and club captains/vice captains.
“Ignus Jurevicius and Hannah Meaden retained their club captain roles for 2019, and in addition will be aided by new vice captains Sophia Cooper and Simas Jurevicius.
“The Edward Griffin Memorial Cup, as it is now known, was awarded to Chloe Meaden for her dedication and effort as a member of the senior swimming squad. The John Simms Cup, went to the most deserving member of the junior squad, Alanna Spencer.
“Another special award made on the night this year went to Paul Shepherd. As Paul is stepping down this year from his role within the club, everyone would like to wish him well and thank him for all the years he has put into the club.
“Following the presentation, all members enjoyed a buffet followed by a disco provided by DJ Frog.
“The club is always keen to hear from any prospective new swimmers or their parents.” Contact details can be found at www. westburyasc.co.uk
