A special Holiday Lunch and Teddy Bears’ Picnic for local children is being organised by Abraham’s Kitchen.
It will be held on Friday 26th July from noon to 2pm at Grassacres Hall in Eden Vale Road.
There will be a holiday lunch, hat making and crafts and a prize for the best dressed bear for under-14s.
Abraham’s Kitchen provides community lunches for families during school holidays and is encouraging more families to come along.
The scheme, overseen by volunteers from Westbury Area Network, aims to bring the community together for a free and delicious lunch, offering a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a meal during the school holidays.
“There have been four lunches so far that have been held at Grassacres Hall and they have grown in popularity, with an increase of around 400% since the first community lunch,” said WAN volunteer Janet Gray. “These are themed lunches that take place during the school holidays and they are free to all those who attend.
“We always have a craft for everyone to enjoy too and we have received very positive feedback from those who have attended. In the past we have made Mother’s Day cards, enjoyed pumpkin carving, decorated cupcakes and made gingerbread.”
Abraham’s Kitchen started in the autumn of 2019 at the Laverton before moving to Grassacres Hall last year.
“In the autumn of 2019 Abraham’s Kitchen started with the idea to try and bring parents and children in the community together to help promote healthy meals,” added Janet “All the ingredients and a recipe were provided for parents and children to cook together. In January 2020, Westbury Town Council and the Westbury Area Board agreed to provide grants to enable the community lunch to begin in April 2020.
“However, due to the covid pandemic, it was not possible to gather people together in the way that it had been planned. So, during this time, recipes and ingredients were delivered to families over a two-year period, helping parents and children to enjoy cooking healthy meals together.
“In August 2022, the first community meal took place at The Laverton before moving to Grassacres Hall with volunteers from Westbury Area Network overseeing the running of the lunches on behalf of Westbury Town Council.
“The town council still provide some funding with additional external funding to ensure the community lunches may continue.
“We would like to thank all those that help to make the community lunches possible, including Westbury Town Council, Stag Set-Up, Grassacres Hall and all those who kindly volunteer.”
