WESTBURY’S mayor, cllr Mike Sutton, has spoken of the “humanity and compassion of our local community” in this unprecedented year of Covid-19.
In his annual message, (below), he says that the way the local community has rallied round to help each other during the pandemic, reflects the true message of Christmas and makes him proud of the people of Westbury.
Cllr Sutton writes, “Season’s Greetings to everyone, even though this year will be under circumstances that none of us have ever experienced.
“We have had to adapt to a different way of working and socialising and we now know the level of restrictions in our area.
“Although we cannot have the same outdoor attractions and entertainment, we still have our Christmas lights and there is a light-hearted festive video on the council website to show that even in serious times, we can still have a bit of fun.
“What has not changed though is the humanity and compassion of our local community and as I have said many times before, the number of people who have volunteered to help pack or deliver food parcels to the vulnerable or those who man the phone lines helping those in need, plus the many businesses and individuals donating money or food has been magnificent and makes me very proud of the people of this town.
“So although this will be a very different festive season for many of us, maybe therein lies the true message of Christmas. It is not just about what we want for ourselves, but how we can help those less fortunate than ourselves.
“Wishing everyone a contented and safe Xmas.”
Cllr Mike Sutton,
Mayor of Westbury.
