WESTBURY Town Council is joining a growing number of councils and government bodies opening its doors and offering people a safe, warm place to drop in for a few hours of the day during the winter months.

Public spaces such as community centres, churches, and libraries are being used as ‘warm spaces’, allowing people who may be struggling to heat their homes this winter to gather inside the public buildings.
Deborah Urch, town clerk said, “The Laverton will be open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday from now through to the end of March and everyone is welcome to drop in for a few hours or for the full day. We have free Wifi for guests and will also make hot drinks available each morning and afternoon.
Community support
“We understand this is a worrying time for people and we will do what we can to support residents. Our community room will be a warm and welcoming space and is open to all.”
Cllr Mike Sutton, who proposed making a warm space available at a meeting of the town council last month said, “This town council was at the forefront when the pandemic started, with our support for the foodbank and other social issues; we have been seen as leading in most of the matters that affect our society and the more disadvantaged within it.
“Allocating a warm space where frozen members of the community can come in for a cup of tea and a sit down will come as a welcome relief to many in the face of the rising energy bills.”
The Laverton is located on Bratton Road, Westbury, just a short walk from the town centre. For further information call 01373 822232.
