WESTBURY will join the many towns and parishes across the country in remembering those who have died and those who have been wounded in the service of their country at a service this Sunday, 13th November.
Westbury residents are being asked to gather at the War Memorial at 10.55am on the day. The mayor, cllr Sheila Kimmins, says this should be a time to remember those who have fought for our freedom and democracy.
She said, “Remembrance Sunday is not only to remember the men and women who died in the First and Second World Wars but all those who have died or have been wounded in the following wars across the world.
“The current war in Ukraine and protests in Iran brings home how important it is that we should remember how precious freedom and democracy is for us all. So, to come together to remember those who have fought and those who fight for freedom is important and should not be forgotten.
“On Sunday 13th November, all who gather by the War Memorial will to come together as one community, each using the words we share and interpreting them against the backcloth of our own faith or belief. Together with the many representatives of the community, groups will come to the War Memorial to lay their poppy wreaths in remembrance.”
The Royal British Legion (RBL), uniformed organisations and youth groups will parade through the High Street and lay their wreaths at the end of the service.
Sgt Davies from the Army Officer Selection Board will again be the parade marshal, while Reverend Rebecca Harris, rector at All Saints’ Church, will lead the service.
