VANDALS have continued to target fitness equipment which was installed in Grassacre Park last year costing £12,000.
The equipment provides a facility for an age range of seven year olds to adults. However, for the second time in a year, the safety/instruction sign has been removed.
The first occasion was the day following installation. It was then riveted back in place more securely but has again been removed by vandals with what must have been a great deal of effort.
Town clerk, Keith Harvey said, “A few weeks ago I approached four youths in Grassacre Park where I found a teenage girl taking great joy in kicking a street lighting column. She was not very complimentary when I questioned why she was damaging council property however the three boys did apologise on her behalf.
“The majority of people enjoy our parks and use the equipment sensibly and treat it with respect, but unfortunately there are those who take great pleasure in causing damage and wasting town council money.”
Westbury Town Council has invested in new play equipment in the various Wiltshire Council play areas around Westbury and plan to continue adding and upgrading further equipment.
If anyone can help in tracing those responsible for vandalism please contact Westbury Town Council on 01373 822232.
