A VILLAGE ‘give and take’ food scheme is flourishing in a British Telecom phonebox in Bratton.
The kiosk had been earmarked for demolition by BT in its latest review of under-used boxes, but was adopted by the parish council.
A few weeks ago, resident Ann Monica started a ‘give and take’ initiative whereby signs were put up around the village and the kiosk is being filled with food that those in need can help themselves to.
In the parish newsletter the parish council said this was to be applauded and said the scheme had been well-received in the village.
Ann Monica told BBC Wiltshire Radio, “People have been so kind. We’ve got nappies, and shampoo going into there, toiletries of all sorts, toothpastes, toothbrushes as well as just food.
“Because it’s so cold, the phone box is acting as a wonderful fridge as well, so we can put potatoes and carrots and fresh things like that inside.”
