THE Dilton Marsh Village Store and contained Post Office closed without warning recently, less than a year after its reopening.
The shop, which was officially opened by Ethandune councillor Jerry Wickham, started trading under new owners in April last year.
However, it seems that there was very little notice that the shop was closing, before it ceased trading at the end of February following a brief clearance sale. An employee said they had heard no mention of any new owners.
Now ex-owner Matt Lawes said, “We have had to surrender the lease for personal reasons, and whether it reopens or not is something we no longer play a part in.”
A Post Office spokesperson said, “We regret that the premises at 55 High Street, Dilton Marsh are no longer available for Post Office use. The premises were withdrawn at very short notice and the branch closed temporarily on 23 February 2015.
“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience the temporary closure may cause. We are committed to maintaining a Post Office in Dilton Marsh, and are currently advertising the vacancy.”
The closest Post Office is now at the Co-Operative supermarket in Westbury.
