Gas masks, tin helmets and ration books are all on display to help Westbury turn back the clock at the town’s museum.
The museum’s latest exhibition aims to show visitors just what it was like to live through wartime in Westbury.
It looks at everything from schools where the influx of evacuees meant sharing desks and books through to the presence of American troops still remembered by local people for their generous gifts of sweets and canned fruit.
Visitors to the exhibition on the first floor of the library can see leaflets warning about the coming of war through to magazines and newspapers packed with advice on everything from wartime recipes to recycling.
A 1940s dress shows the benefits of wartime mending and making do while music and a film specially produced for the museum will help visitors travel back in time.
The free exhibition runs throughout the summer months, and everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy the exhibition and share their memories with the museum volunteers.
