If you’ve ever wondered why we use the words and phrases that we do, then the next Westbury heritage event is for you.
Tony Painter, who grew up in the West Country will be unravelling our local dialect, explaining the meaning of words and phrases and exploring just how our particular dialect came about.
Tony grew up in Wiltshire and remembers the dialect used by older relatives. His illustrated presentation, which includes sound extracts, will also look at country customs and superstitions.
West Country Dialect – Dead or Alive is the latest in a popular range of talks organised by the Westbury Heritage Society and promises to be a fascinating look into our linguistic past.
It takes place on Tuesday 26th November at the Methodist church hall in Station Road. It starts at 7.30pm. Entrance is £4 for non members and £2 for members.
