WE LIVE in very interesting times. At the moment, in this country, we are in the middle of the harvest season. The farmers are out in their big machines bringing in lots of different vegetables and fruits for us to enjoy. Yet, there are people in the world who do not have enough to eat.
I read a statistic somewhere that said there is enough food on the planet to feed everyone. If that’s true, why are some people going hungry and other people suffering from eating too much? There is an imbalance in the world. The system is rigged so that the rich can have more than they need, but the poor have to pay an excruciatingly high price just to eat a basic diet.
Harvest is a time to give thanks to God for his faithfulness in providing everything we have. So, when we’re tucking into our lovely roast dinners with all the trimmings, we can give thanks for what we have been given. What’s more, we are in a position to help those who cannot afford such lovely things.
I would like to encourage everyone to spare a thought for those who do not have enough to eat and see what you can do to help. It may be as simple as inviting another family over to share a meal. You could also give to the Warminster Food Bank which will go to help people in this local area. When you see a homeless person on the streets, you might buy them a portion of chips and a nice warm cuppa. What will you do?
