WESTBURY CofE Juniors School has had a busy year and is looking forward to bigger and better things in 2018.
Richard Hatt, headteacher at Westbury Juniors said, “The past year has been a thoroughly enjoyable one for all those connected to Westbury Juniors. As reported in a previous edition of WHN, the marvellous results that were achieved in 2017 were an all-time highlight for the school. However, there is a lot more to Westbury Juniors.
“First and foremost, last year we tried to give children enjoyment in their learning from turning the school hall into a Victorian workhouse (children and staff got into character) to having our regular ‘Maths Is No. 1 Today’ (MINT days) where the whole school engage in “fun” maths for the day.
“Fun from learning continued throughout the year with a range of trips, (e.g residential, Hampton Court) and visitors to the school (Space Dome, Longleat, professional theatre).
“Every child matters and so we hope all children felt cared for over the year, whatever their need. The children also took this theme of care to heart and organised their own stalls for Children In Need, raising around £500.
“The school is very much in the community, for the community. As a church school, we have strong links with All Saints where we regularly worship and helped organise Harvest donations for the Warminster Foodbank. A highlight was also the creation of the café church in school which meets monthly. Other highlights were the holiday clubs and the joint activities with the Infants school.
“Another exciting development last year was the planning of changing the old youth centre into a community centre. This is moving in a positive direction, with a number of local groups involved.
“Above all, the support of the families in our school whether it is “bring your folks to school” days or “extension work” (families working on homework together) is so lovely to see.
“We are all hopeful that we can build on all these elements for this year so that they become greater highlights in 2018! “
