A Westbury man has claimed a national cycling title after competing in the prestigious British Championships last month.
Nathan Hallett took part in the National Masters Criterium Championships and rode to victory in the 35-39 age category, earning him the title of national champion.
The event, held at Odd Down Cycle Circuit in Bath, brought together top riders from across the country.
“This year, the championships were held at Bath Odd Down, which is actually my local circuit, so it made the win feel even more special,” said Nathan. “I’ve spent many hours training and racing there over the years, so to take a national title on familiar roads, in front of friends and local supporters, was a real highlight.”
Nathan hopes to encourage other people to take on a cycling challenge like this, which he describes as “incredibly rewarding.”
“Criterium racing is fast and intense, held on a short, closed circuit with tight corners, high speeds, and constant tactical shifts,” he said. “It demands physical strength, sharp focus and precise positioning throughout the race.
“Preparing for this has taken a huge amount of dedication, structure and time on the bike. I’ve been riding for around 10 years, and this season in particular involved early mornings, tough interval sessions, strength training and careful recovery. It’s been a big commitment – but incredibly rewarding.
“I race with Pronto Bikes, a brilliant and supportive club, and I’m proud to represent both the team and my local Westbury community on a national level.
“A huge thank you to everyone who’s helped me along the way – my teammates, family, and friends – and to the White Horse News for their interest.”
