The curtains have closed on the Westbury Festival, the town’s two-week celebration of music and arts.
Over 35 events were enjoyed, ranging from music and comedy to talks and literature.
Highlights included performances from award-winning comedian Colin Hoult; actor Nigel Planer of The Young Ones fame; and Chris Jagger, brother of Mick Jagger, along with the world premiere of Renfield Unbound, a horror film written and filmed in Westbury.
There were live music events featuring the clarinet, piano and saxophone; a Night at the Opera with a professional opera singer and a West End director; secret cinema films; an afternoon of fun and music with Dr Zebo; a talk from acclaimed travel writer Dr Gail Simmons; a workshop with a professional artist, a ‘Tech Made Simple’ drop-in session; and a day helping people trace their family tree.
There was a heritage walk around town, magic from Festival favourite, the Great Baldini; a photography exhibition, knit and natter and tea and chat sessions and several events for children at Westbury Library.
“We hope you enjoyed the Festival; we tried to put on something for everyone and bring a wide variety of live entertainment to the Westbury community,” said Festival chair Ian Cunningham.
“I’d like to give a big thank you for all the fantastic performances from some really talented performers and to the enthusiastic support from our audiences. And a really big thank you to the small committee for all their fantastic work in putting on the Festival; they do a tremendous amount of work to make sure the event is a success.
“The committee would also like to thank Westbury Town Council and our sponsors, Bath Domestic Appliances, Heywood House and the Platinum Motor Group – without their support, the Festival could not take place. Events like those featuring Nigel Planer, Colin Hoult and Chris Jagger could not happen without financial help.
“A thank you also to the local organisations and venues which have put on or hosted events including the Laverton, the Heritage Society, local churches, the library, Jubilee Hall and Victoria Gardens.
“We would also like to thank anyone who displayed a poster, handed out a brochure, liked or shared our posts on social media and, of course, anyone who bought a ticket to an event.
“If anyone would like to get involved in next year’s festival do please get in touch at chair@WestburyFestival.org.uk. You will be made very welcome.”
