WESTBURY fire station has said goodbye to one of its firefighters, who has had to leave Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service due to ill health.
Craig Parkinson was badly injured in a road traffic collision while riding his motorbike; while he has recovered sufficiently to return to his ‘day job’, he has not been able to regain the level of fitness needed to be a firefighter.
Having completed 12 years as an on-call firefighter in Westbury, Craig received his certificate of service from group manager Dave Jacomb at a presentation last month.
Thanking his colleagues for their support, Craig said, “Over the years, I have attended many types of calls, from barn fires to someone stuck behind a radiator. I enjoyed being part of the team, serving and protecting the local community and surrounding areas.
“It’s a shame that I have had to leave due to an accident which left me unable to continue, but I would like to wish everyone at Westbury fire station and within Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service all the best for the future.”
