GOLFERS across Westbury, who have had their cars smashed and golf clubs stolen, are urging players to be vigilant and keep their clubs in a safe place.
Several golfers have had their golf clubs stolen over the weekend of July 20th, with thieves smashing car windows to take them.
Westbury Golf Club said, “It appears that thieves are targeting local golfers to steal their golf clubs out of their cars overnight. Golfers from Westbury, West Wilts and Orchardleigh in Frome have had their clubs stolen. We are advising all of our members not to keep them in their cars overnight.”
A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said, “We can confirm that we have received several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Westbury area between July 20th and 22nd. These incidents have happened in Studland Park, Newtown and The Butts and on each occasion, windows have been smashed and golf clubs stolen from vehicles.
“We believe the incidents are linked and we would urge anyone who has valuable items in their vehicles, whether this may be power tools for work, handbags containing personal items, or leisure equipment such as golf clubs, to remove them from your vehicle as soon as you return home.
“Never leave valuable or personal items in your vehicle – if you have no other option, ensure they are locked out of sight from opportunists. Anyone with information, or anyone who may have seen any golf clubs for sale online, should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54190071512. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
