Past and present staff, governors, and students joined together for Westbury Leigh Primary School’s 10th anniversary celebrations for their new building.
The afternoon consisted of afternoon tea, and entertainment from the students including the school’s choir, dance group and musicians. Student Ellie Johnson won the design for the 10th anniversary cake which was unveiled at the event.
Scarecrows, self-watering plants, a keyhole garden made from recycled tyres and a new sustainable planter for supplying the school kitchens, were also on show.
The special guest was Sophie Annetts, wife of the late John Annetts a school governor and local councillor who was the driving force behind Westbury Leigh getting the new school a decade ago. Sophie unveiled a memorial piece, honouring John, to mark the occasion.
Ruth Hann, who retired from the governing body after 25 years, received flowers and a book with pictures from all the Westbury Leigh students.
Headteacher Debbie Grimsey said, “It has been an amazing afternoon. I am overwhelmed by the amount of people who have come out and supported us.
“It is a great way to celebrate the school as it continues to grow from success to success. It is a credit to all the hard work and commitment that all the staff and students have put in.”
