Westbury Lions 10k raises over £1,000 for local community

RUNNERS were out in force for this year’s Westbury Lions 10k on Sunday, raising over £1,000 for good causes in the community. 

The White Horse Country Park was home again to the event, with 112 people tackling the course, battling it out for trophies and medals for successfully running the distance. 

Fastest male runner was  Dominic Beddis of Avon Valley Runners in a time of 35.28; fastest female was awarded to Chrissy Cornish from Frome Triathlon Club with a time of 46.20; fastest male veteran was Martin Chorley of Road Runners Club, 38.53 and the fastest female veteran was Amanda Garton-Rae who finished in 48.05. 

Lions president Nigel Coward said, “We had 112 competitors today, which is a little bit down on previous years but due to other events in the area, not entirely surprising! 

“However our regular supporters were out in force and it was lovely to see some fresh faces from further afield giving us their support.  Today’s event has raised over £1,000 for good causes in the community so we are over the moon with the results!

“We must pass on our thanks to all the volunteers who helped marshal the event today and our amazing Westbury Leos who ensured everyone received their water en route and their medals at the end of the run.   

“Special thanks are also due to Taylor Davies for their kind donation towards the running costs of the event, and to Andrew Hoddinott who once again gave a great deal of time to ensure the race timing was completed with as much accuracy as possible.  As ever, this event cannot take place without the generous support of the team at the White Horse Country Park who let us use their venue.”
