A WESTBURY man who went missing in the Australian outback has been found safe and well.
Anthony Collis who originally comes from Westbury, but now lives in Australia, was missing for three days after he became separated from his travelling companion and car whilst on their way to Darwin.
The woman who he was travelling with, disorientated and dehydrated, managed to walk to a nearby camp and report him missing. Three days later, Anthony was found by police, dehydrated and suffering from exposure, but otherwise well.
The acting superintendent at WA Police State Control Centre, Garry Kosovich, said Anthony was found by police after calling out for help.
“I understand he was calling out and police heard the call, I think he was fairly weak at that point in time but thankfully he was heard,” he said.
“He had left the vehicle for reasons we don’t know. Had he remained with the vehicle he would have been located on Friday where the vehicle was found.
“I don’t believe he had anything with him, he was certainly very thirsty and he was pleased to be found.”
On Facebook Anthony’s mother, Karen, thanked the emergency services for finding her son safe and well.
“Thanks to everybody. My son has been found.
“All of you guys out searching, too many to thank individually but you are our heroes. Everybody in the family will be eternally grateful to you all.”
