THE main post office for Westbury on Kingfisher Drive will officially close its doors on Tuesday next week – 3rd October.
There is still no news yet about when – or if – it will be replaced, leaving residents of the town with the prospect of having to travel to The Ham, nearby villages, or other towns such as Trowbridge and Warminster, to carry out important errands.
New premises for the post office have been sought since the news broke last year that the Co-operative supermarket, that is home to the main post office for Westbury, had sold its store to Lidl.
A Post Office spokesperson said, “The Co-op has resigned from operating Westbury Post Office and the branch, based within the store, is closing on Tuesday 3rd October at 5.30pm.
“We are committed to maintaining a Post Office in this area of Westbury. The vacancy was advertised and we have an interested applicant that we are in talks with.
“Any re-location would be subject to public consultation. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the branch.
“We are working hard to restore Post Office services to the area as soon as possible. Alternative branches include The Ham, Bratton, Dilton Marsh and Warminster.”
