THIS year’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service was attended by hundreds of people, and the Westbury branch of the Royal British Legion hope to have raised a significant sum for the Poppy Appeal over the Remembrance period.
On Sunday 10th November, the annual parade marched from the Market Place to the war memorial in the town centre, where a service was held.
This year’s parade was led by the Trowbridge Marching Band, while many local groups and dignitaries also took part.
The service included a two-minute silence, hymns, and the laying of wreaths by local organisations.
A two-minute silence and short service was also held at the memorial on Monday 11th November.
Mary Kneen, chair of the Westbury branch of the Royal British Legion said, “The Sunday parade and service went very well, with more people this year than last year. We had a lot of people on Monday as well, including kids from the nursery, who came for a short service and the silence.
“It never ceases to amaze me; people always come to show their respect and come together. It makes me very proud and it is very moving.
“We also had a lot of wreaths laid, and also had people asking how they could lay a wreath next year.”
