WESTBURY resident, Cynthia Yates, celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday 3rd August.
Cynthia was joined by friends, relatives and Forget-me-Not carers to celebrate her 100th birthday, as well as receiving her telegram from the Queen.
Cynthia and her husband Bert, who sadly died in 2016, moved to Westbury from London in 2013 to be closer to family. They were married for 65 years and born and bred in the capital city.
Cynthia has two sons, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She has had a varied working life including serving in the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) in London during the Second World War (and being evacuated after their neighbours’ house was hit by a German V1 bomb, the ‘Doodle Bug’ in 1944); as a secretary to a company boss, and nursing and care work in an old people’s home.
Cynthia’s son, Mike Rowe said, “She still lives independently, with superb help from Forget-me-Not carers. She still reads the daily newspaper from cover to cover-without spectacles! Her secret to longevity? A sense of humour, plenty of travel and fresh air, and grit and determination.”
