SCHOOLS in Westbury did their bit for Children in Need last week, with various fundraising activities taking place across the town.
On Friday, students at Matravers School spent the day in their pyjamas and organised events throughout the day. The school raised over £1,000 but money is still coming in. Headteacher Dr. Riding said, “Matravers School is delighted to have once again supported Children in Need, raising over £1,000 to support worthwhile causes.
“This is a testament to the altruism of the Matravers community.”
Pupils at Dilton Marsh Primary School wore something spotty to school and donated £1. Each class also made cakes and biscuits to sell. All their efforts helped raise £233 for Children in Need. They also had a surprise visit from Pudsey Bear, organised by Asda in Frome.
Pupils at Westbury Leigh Primary School dressed as their favourite superhero and raised close to £500, with donations still coming in. Headteacher Debbie Grimsey said, “The children and families of Westbury Leigh Primary School have given generously to this worthy cause which was organised by the Pupil Leadership Team.
“Children and staff came to school in fancy dress and there was a raffle for some Pudsey teddies which was very popular.
“In total, the school community raised over £500 which is an excellent contribution to this worthy cause. We are very grateful to everyone who supported this.”
The children were also lucky enough to meet the real Pudsey Bear and were part of a live broadcast on BBC Radio Wiltshire.
