Westbury Swimming Pool will be closed for five days for essential maintenance work between Monday 12th – Friday 16th December.
The management are sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to remind customers they can use any local Places for People pool in Wiltshire. The nearest being Warminster Sports Centre.
Staff will look forward to welcoming customers back when they reopen on Saturday 17th December. Westbury’s unique Victorian swimming pool is steeped in history, operating for over 125 years and is one of the oldest working public pools in the UK.
The building may be historic but the SWIMTAG Technology available at the pool is a more recent addition. SWIMTAG is a wristband that monitors your swim giving you information about distance swam, stroke rate and calories burnt. You can also get involved in virtual swimming challenges. This is the perfect tool as we lead into the Christmas season to help burn off all those additional calories that many of us will consume.
Did you know 1 slice of Christmas cake is approximately 249 calories and will take 30 minutes of backstroke to burn off? Or 30 minutes of breaststroke will burn off 368 calories – anyone for a mince pie and cream?
If your mind has turned to food now, never fear help is at hand. Leighton Recreation Centre, Wellhead Lane in Westbury is holding an interactive free nutrition seminar on Tuesday 29th November at 6.30pm. The session will cover habits of healthy eating, promoting a non-restrictive diet and looking at fuelling the body properly when undertaking an exercise routine. Instructors will be able to answer questions about staying healthy over the festive season.
