THE Westbury Transport and Vintage gathering went off without a hitch, following a two-year absence due to covid restrictions in 2020/21. The sun was shining, as car enthusiasts from all over the country came to Westbury to see a variety of vintage cars, military vehicles, stationary engines, tractors and motorbikes at the top field of Bratton last weekend.
Keith Miller, organiser of the event, said, “We’ve been running this show for 26 years now and it’s great to see the progression of the displays throughout the years. We’ve been blessed today with some lovely weather and all the displays are gleaming in the sunshine.
“I’d just like to thank everyone for their help to make the show possible, especially after covid. Thank you also to everyone that visited and made the weekend what it was. After covid, we weren’t sure if we’d have two men and a dog here, but the turnout has been really healthy!”
The show took place on Saturday and Sunday last weekend, with hundreds of people coming from the local area and further beyond to check out the latest displays of vintage vehicles.
“You won’t find a more scenic spot in the local area,” Keith added. “We’re very lucky to be able to call this field home for the show.
“We have a lot of regulars that visit our show each year but we also get lots of visitors from all over the country; we’ve got some from the north west here today, some from Cornwall, London and even as far north as Scotland.”
Keith added that the key to the show’s 26 year-long success is letting visitors get as close to displays as they would like to, charging as small a fee as possible, and reducing all ‘red tape’ – all while following the relevant safety precautions.
“Our unique selling point is that we are very hands on; we let people get in amongst the displays.”
One highlight of the show was the military vehicle display, which was put together by local military enthusiast, Richard Dalton. Richard is hosting the ‘White Horse Military Show’ on the 20th and 21st of August this year, and has promised to expand heavily on what he presented at the Vintage Car Show, with displays from multiple time periods, including the Vietnam War, Cold War and the Gulf War all lined up.
