WESTBURY had a royal knees-up last weekend as people across the town joined a national celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Street parties, picnics, tea, cake and Union Jacks were the order of the day as people celebrated the monarch’s birthday in true British style.
On Saturday a tea party was held at Victoria Gardens in the town centre with music from Matravers students; there was a village hall fair in Chapmanslade with live music, games and a disco; and Westbury Conservative Club had a visit from a children’s entertainer.
On Sunday residents of The Knoll, Westbury, had their own friendly tea party; there was fun and games at Leigh Park Community Centre; and a community picnic and Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Holy Trinity Church in Dilton Marsh.

Carol Peacock, of The Knoll said, “Our street party was very successful and residents from 12 of the 19 homes came along bearing an assortment of goodies to share. The forecast rain never arrived, the sun even broke through, and people eventually went away feeling they’d all got to know each other a little better!”
Queen Elizabeth turned 90 in April and had her official celebrations – Trooping the Colour – on Saturday 11th June.
Parties took place up and down the country and people joined in celebrations with the Queen, who is the world’s longest-reigning and oldest monarch.
