James Goodard opted for 4-4-2 formation with a view to sit in and frustrate Wellington which lasted only ten minutes.
Wellington switched the ball out wide to their winger who swung in a beautiful cross which beat Dan Price in the air and a lurking striker nodded it into the bottom corner of Ben Foresters’ goal.
Westbury pushed for that elusive equaliser but sadly very few chances came about. George Bendle went close when he managed to wriggle through on goal but failed to get the shot off.
In the second half Westbury controlled the game for the first twenty minutes with lots of possession and a great chance for Jordan Pinder but he couldn’t get his head onto the cross.
Goddard made two instant changes, Nick Taylor and Otis Young on for James Hounsell and Martin Johnson – this changed the game for five minutes as Taylor had two chances to head goals from a great cross from Jamie Jordan but couldn’t get the leverage needed. Then Taylor stuck in a great cross and Pinder burst in the box but seemed to slip which was a shame as Westbury deserved at least a point.
Wellington went on a break and a dubious penalty was given to them as Ferris Lamrabet was judged to have pulled the striker down. The penalty was stroked in past Forester. Wellington’s third goal came from a Jordan slip in midfield and the ball fell to a Wellington player who struck it past Forester who had no chance.
On reflection a flattering score line for the visitors but they were clinical in front of goal which seems to be the reason they are top. Star man: Matt Jones
