“THESE are very uncertain times for all non league clubs,”says Andy Bown in an update about Westbury Utd. “Provided with government and FA issued Covid 19 advice, Westbury United got their ground ready to welcome supporters to friendlies, only for a new dictation that these matches should be played behind closed doors
“At the time of writing nobody knows when supporters will be allowed at Meadow Lane! The new joint management of Lewis Porter and Ricky Hulbert got off to a good start in searing heat on Saturday 8th August, beating Radstock Town 1-0 thanks to Ricky Hulbert’s late goal.
“However on Tuesday 11th August, a match again played in hot conditions, it was visitors Longwell Green who snatched a late winner to triumph 1-0. United has created plenty of chances prior to the goal, forcing the Longwell keeper into several excellent saves. Callum Demkiv came closest when his 25 yard shot was tipped onto the crossbar, while Josh Ferguson was denied on 3 occasions in the 2nd half.
“This is the author’s own view here; how can it be right that any local sports club cannot welcome their supporters, yet 22 players who do not have to be tested can go full throttle in a contact sport in extreme heat? Westbury United average around 100 as an attendance, there are acres of space around Meadow Lane!
