Mark Young and Simon Millard went close in a stop-start 1st half before Young set up Nathan Hallett to put United ahead with a fine left footed finish on 44 minutes.
Both sides made substitutions as the heat began to take its toll during the 2nd half, and Fareham drew level from the penalty spot on 65; Marc Scammell fouled Rudy Plummer who scored the penalty confidently. Young had a shot well saved with DJ Wheeler wasting the rebound to spurn the best chance either team had for a winner.
