ON Sunday 13th March 16 members of Westbury Walkers, including two new walkers, enjoyed a seven and a quarter mile spring walk starting from South Wraxall led by Rob Hearnden and Linda Morris.
Most of the walk followed the MacMillan Way. Lots of newborn lambs were seen near the impressive South Wraxall Manor.
The walk made its way through fields where recent heavy rain had saturated the ground in several places. The road leading to Kingsdown was crossed and, after a byway, led onto a small lane that continued to the village of Henley.
Throughout the walk there were lots of beautiful spring flowers including snowdrops, primroses and daffodils. There were also beautiful views to take in across the Box valley including the entrance to Box Tunnel. There were lots of wonderful houses including a previous home of one of our walkers.
After a coffee break the walk went on along a quiet lane and eventually climbed up to the golf course which was surprisingly quiet. Leaving the golf course via some steep steps it was necessary to cross the road and two kindly drivers stopped to let the group across (not sure they realised they were stopping for 16!).
The walk continued on past Ashley woods to the outskirts of Monkton Farleigh where a lunch stop was taken below the impressive Monkton Farleigh Manor House. Feeling refreshed all continued down the tree lined avenue turning right across several fields for the return to South Wraxall.
Everyone agreed that the lovely weather had made the walk even more enjoyable.
