Eighteen members braved steady rain on Sunday 14th October for a 7.5 miles walk led by Jen Mayne and Carol Harding.
Starting from Cumberwell Golf Club the group headed east and on good paths soon reached Lower Wraxall and then South Wraxall. At the manor house, parts of which date from the fifteenth century, the walkers changed direction, crossing fields to a copse and a welcome stop for hot drinks. Heading down the mile-long grassy avenue brought them to Monkton Farleigh Manor an imposing Georgian pile. Through a farmyard and following a circular route they were able to admire much of this pretty village.
At the church of St. Peter, with its thirteenth century tower, a narrow path and then a rough track took the group to more fields. Skirting them and with a short stop for lunch they crossed the Bath road at Farleigh Wick, passing two more grand houses before entering fields and a gentle climb towards Little Ashleigh. The lane from the village led them down to the main road and back to Cumberwell Park and their cars. Despite the weather, mud and several difficult stiles, the walk was enjoyed by all.
