Westbury Town Council will once again light its beacon on top of Westbury White Horse, to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday on Thursday 21st April, at the start of national celebrations.
Beacons of all descriptions will be lit across the country in a repeat of a long unbroken tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, weddings, coronations and special birthdays.
Residents of Westbury and the surrounding villages, are invited to come and celebrate the lighting of the beacon at 7.30pm, and on this occasion, Westbury will be honoured by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Lt Gen Sir Roderick Cordy-Simpson, who will light the Beacon.
Anyone attending the event is reminded of the narrow roads up to the White Horse and should take extra care when driving, due to an expected increase in vehicle traffic.
Also for your own comfort and safety you should consider the following points:
• Wear sensible footwear as the ground around the beacon is uneven. Walking or trail shoes are advised, casual footwear including trainers is not advised.
• Wear sensible clothing, as it may be raining or cold.
• Bring a torch – the beacon will probably be lit around dusk, so bring a torch to help see around the area.

Thursday 21st April is the Queen’s actual 90th birthday and official celebrations will also be held in June and throughout the year.
