Markings on a ‘dangerous’ roundabout in Westbury will be re-painted by Wiltshire Council following concerns raised by local residents.
Wiltshire councillor Boaz Barry submitted an urgent request to the local authority after the white road markings had completely faded.
The so-called ‘invisible roundabout’ is on Station Road, near Station Approach and Primmers Place.
Cllr Barry said, “The roundabout has completely disappeared. The situation is made more dangerous as it is a raised roundabout – unfamiliar road users are unable to see this hazard as the white markings have almost totally eroded.”
Following his request, Cllr Barry received confirmation from Wiltshire Council that work on the roundabout should be completed soon.
Cllr Barry added, “I’d like to take this opportunity to once again encourage any Westbury residents with concerns about road or pavement safety to get in touch. You can contact me via email at boaz.barry@wiltshire.gov.uk or through my Facebook page: Councillor Boaz Barry – Westbury North.”
In addition, he says line markings on a mini roundabout at the junction with Slag Lane will also be retouched.
Cllr Martin Smith, cabinet member for Highways, Streetscene and Flooding at Wiltshire Council, said, “The site on Station Road in Westbury was inspected, following a report being raised. As our intervention criteria has been met, we have instructed our contractors to programme in the works to refresh the white lines on two mini roundabouts.
“As the work can only be carried out during dry weather, it will be scheduled weather permitting. We are currently expecting the works to be completed within the next two months.”
