Music for the Mind, Alzheimer’s Support’s friendly singing group, is welcoming new members in Westbury.
Singing together is fun and therapeutic, both for people living with dementia and family carers. The group sing songs old and new and learn rhymes and action songs which can help with physical coordination. The Westbury group has been running for nearly nine years and is often oversubscribed, but has room for more members at the moment. You do not need to be a good singer to take part.
The group meets on Tuesday mornings at White Horse Country Park. It’s led by professional singing teacher Caroline Radcliffe and supported by facilitator Vanessa and some kind and supportive volunteer helpers. Westbury Memory Café is also welcoming new members.
The café was the first in Wiltshire and celebrated its 10th birthday in the summer. It meets on the second Thursday evening of the month for a speaker or entertainment, and a chance to socialise with others ‘in the same boat’. Dementia advisers are on hand to discuss any aspect about living with dementia in an informal, friendly environment.
After the entertainment or talk, a light buffet supper is served.
