A TATTOO artist at Studio Ink on Market Street is celebrating a successful summer during which he won six awards.
Ryan Smith, aka ‘the Scientist’, will soon be needing a new trophy cabinet after recent shows saw his total award count rise to 12 from just 14 months’ work.
Ryan, who has been tattooing in the UK and Italy in recent months said, “I’m being invited to some of the biggest conventions in Europe and have already done some of them; it’s been a crazy summer!
“Since the beginning of May I have picked up six new awards, bringing my total to 12 awards in 14 months of conventions.
“That is very, very rare in our industry and most would struggle to get half that in a lifetime. I’m pleased to be achieving so much so quickly – it’s crazy!”
Ryan has taken part in a number of events including holding a seminar at the Great British Tattoo Show in London and doing guest spots at Italian conventions in Carpi, La Spezia and Milan.
He also took part in conventions in Somerset, Leeds, Southampton and Cardiff.
Ryan won a number of 1st and 2nd place awards for monochrome pieces, as well as in avant garde and ‘New Skool’ categories.
He is now looking forward to the winter season, during which he will represent the UK alongside the nation’s top artists at the Italian Tattoo Artists show in Turin.
His calendar also includes visits to a number of conventions in France, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Carpi, San Remo, Athens , Lake Tahoe and Los Angeles.
