Westbury is gearing up for the eagerly anticipated return of the White Horse Soapbox Derby, taking place next Saturday, 17th May.
Twenty high-spec karts will hurl themselves down the steep hill near the iconic White Horse, cheered on by huge crowds.
The thrilling route has been described as “one of the gnarliest, most technical and bendy soapbox tracks in the country.”
Attendees should also keep an eye on the skies, as the Red Devils Parachute Team will perform a spectacular display at 2pm.
Alongside the race, visitors can enjoy live music, a funfair, a climbing wall, a kite festival and helicopter landings, making it a full day of entertainment.
Ryan Child, events manager at Westbury Town Council, said, “We’re really happy with the planning this year and have an incredible event set up — more racers than ever, parachutes, food from around the world and a much larger kite festival.
“The main thing we’ve focused on, though, is the park and ride. I really hope people use the buses and walk down to the various hubs on the day.
“Or if it’s more convenient, grab a taxi and come right up to the event. Walking and cycling is also very welcome.
“Maybe next year we can organise a big town-wide charity walk to the event and raise money for a local cause. Who knows — let’s just come together as a town this year and make it another good one.”
A park & ride is available at three hubs – Westbury Medical Centre, Westbury United Football Club and Warminster Road Car Park – making it easy to get to the action. Shuttle buses cost £5 (return) for adults and children under 16 are free.
