THE Westbury ‘Person of the Year 2013’ competition is now open, and it is time for you to make your nominations.
The competition, run by the White Horse News, will recognise a resident who has made a real contribution to the community in 2013.
Westbury has many individuals who work hard throughout the year to help other people, improve their town, and raise money for charity. Perhaps your nominee has shown outstanding acts of bravery, or offered voluntary services which have benefitted the local community.
People are now being asked to put forward their Person of the Year 2013 nominations. The only conditions are that the person is from Westbury or one of the surrounding villages or works in the town; and that the person has not previously won this award.
Ian Drew, editor of White Horse News said, “This is a chance to nominate someone who deserves recognition for their outstanding actions to Westbury over the past year or who has had the biggest impact on life in the town.”
Westbury’s Person of the Year 2012 went to Steve Lloyd, chair of Chernobyl Children’s Life Line (West Wilts Link).
In 2011 the award was given to the late Dot Whitehead, for her role as Westbury’s Air Ambulance shop manager.
The previous year, the honour went to funeral director, Arthur Mays, in recognition of some 60 years of kindness, thoughtfulness, and help for clients who are going through a difficult time.
In 2009 the award went to Henry Leigh, the founder of the Belarussian Ray of Hope.

The shortlist of nominations will be published in a forthcoming issue of the White Horse News, with the winner decided by public vote.
