The only bright points for Westbury on this forgettable evening were a stunning sunset, a bright full moon, Matty Mantay’s superb never say die attitude and Zayn Alime’s late fluked goal that did little to gloss over the outcome.
Wincanton opened up a 5 point gap in the bottom 3 above their visitors.
United were in trouble before they started due to injuries and player unavailability which forced Dan Moore and Nathan Hallett-Young to start even though both were nowhere near fit. Added to them leaving the pitch on 15 minutes and at half time respectively, Tony McElhone and Mike Coll picked up knocks after fierce challenges which left them limping through the 2nd half!
Brothers Connor and Matt Morley caused trouble for United all evening with the former denied a shot by Coll’s excellent tackle early on. However Town soon opened the scoring when Gary Chapman ran in unmarked to head home Dan Wise’s corner.
Westbury briefly threatened through Joe Cavalla and James Hounsell but the home defence was alert, while at the other end Charlie Heydon saved from Andy Mitchell.
United basically limped through the 2nd half and didn’t create anything until the 75th minute. Before then Mitchell had tapped in the 2nd goal on 52 while Heydon had denied both Morley brothers.
Ben Forester fired a 20 yarder wide before a rush of late goals; Iwan Walters raced through and rounded Heydon to make it 3-0 then Connor Morley, who also saw an injury time effort hit a post, got on the end of a long ball to head in the 4th before Alime’s cross from the left wing drifted over home keeper Jamie Stewart and into the net.
